Dora Charlene Spooner departed this earthly life in the early morning hours of Friday, February 7, 2025, at the age of 66 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Va. She was the daughter of Charles and Florene Spooner — both now deceased.
Charlene was born and raised in Miami, Fla., where she graduated from Westminster Christian School in 1977. Shortly thereafter her family relocated to the mountains of North Carolina where she attended and graduated from Appalachian State University in the early 1980’s. After graduating she developed an interest in helping individuals with substance abuse issues, so she resumed her studies in order to become certified in various aspects of counseling — then went on to serve in several related capacities.
Charlene was gifted artistically, and enjoyed creating and using her favorite medium — handmade paper. She frequently gifted family and friends with lovely Christmas tree angels, block prints, and collages. She loved mountain life and the art and craft communities and she discovered there. She also loved animals — especially cats — rescuing and adopting many feline “fur children” throughout her lifetime.
Loved ones and friends trust that Charlene is now resting peacefully for eternity, having professed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
She is survived by her older sister Linda Page, who resides in central Fla.
