Estell R. Williams, 83, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was born November 7, 1940, in Ewing, Va., to the late Ernest Ray Williams and Evelyn Brooks Williams. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Williams and three brothers, Norman Williams, Donald Williams and Boyd Williams.
He was a United States Army veteran.
Estell was a resident of Big Stone Gap, Va., before relocating to Abingdon, Va., in 2004. He began his career with Fraley’s Coal Company and later worked for Westmoreland Coal Company as a Manager for 30 years before retiring. Estell was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. He enjoyed raising and sharing his garden each year and his family will most fondly remember him for his love of cooking, making preserves, and canning every vegetable imaginable, especially tomatoes. He most loved helping others in whatever way they may need.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Retha Williams; two sons, Steve Williams, M.D. (Michael Stillman, M.D.); Scott Williams (Melissa Doane Williams, LCSW); four grandchildren, Josh Williams (Hannah Williams), Peyton Williams, Caleb Williams and Eli Williams; two great grandchildren, Luke and Noah Williams; brother, Ronald Williams; five sisters, Esther Brindle (Ted Brindle), Shirley Alene Williams, Sandra Johnson (Wylie Johnson), Beverly Sargent and Patty Pillion (Doug Pillion); brother-in-law, Ronnie Perry; sister-in-law, Shirley Kyle (Roy Kyle); several nieces and nephews; special friends, Bart and Libby Sprinkle, Steve and Connie Powers and numerous extended family members, all of whom loved him dearly.
Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Lighthouse Family Worship Center, 145 Lake St., Wise, Va. 24293. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the church with Pastor Roger Barker officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Virginia Army National Guard. Cremation will follow.
