John H. McCracken

John H. McCracken, age 85, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Abingdon Health & Rehab Center. 

He was born July 11, 1939, to the late Charlie McCracken and Ollie Eastridge McCracken in Russell County, Va.  John loved to sing gospel music and attended church at the First Assembly of God in Abingdon. 

In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by seven siblings, Roscoe McCracken, Harry McCracken, Bob McCracken, Alice Mims, Stella Fields, Nannie Bellamy, and Pansey Whittman.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janice Marie Haywood McCracken; sister, Pauline Staples of Abingdon, Va.; niece, Cathy Mowrey and husband, Michael, of Lebanon, Va.; several additional nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God, 250 Phillips St NW, Abingdon, VA 24210, with Pastor Caleb Cruey officiating.
