Joseph B. "Lacy" McClanahan, Sr., age 86, of Glade Spring, Va., passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at his residence. He was born May 28, 1938, to the late Samuel Meshach McClanahan and Josie Katrine VanDyke McClanahan in Grundy, Va.
He owned and operated McClanahan's Body and Wrecker Service for over 50 years. Lacy enjoyed working on cars, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. He attended Cardwell Town Freewill Baptist Church while his health prevailed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline Louthian McClanahan; four brothers, Alvie Horne, Woodrow McClanahan, Estal McClanahan, and Roy McClanahan; four sisters, Bonnie Henderson, Della Holland, Ocie Cochran, and Ednie VanDyke; many half-siblings; granddaughter, Shawna Lynam; and a great grandchild, Amber Rose White.
He is survived by six children: Rosalee Thomas and husband, Todd, of Chilhowie, Va.; Charlene “Diann” McClanahan, of Bristol, Va.; Joseph Lacy McClanahan, of the home; Rebecca "Becky" Belcher and husband, Jeff, of Bristol, Tenn.; Kathryn Stophel, of Abingdon, Va.; and Kaylee Grace Sexton, of Chilhowie, Va.; loving companion of 37 years, Gwendolyn Doss, of the home; Gwendolyn's children, Melba Mullins, Billy Mullins, and Reno Mullins; brother, Holiday McClanahan, of Abingdon, Va.; numerous half-siblings;14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and caregiver, Susan Stone.
