It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth Bernard Nurre, age 78, of Meadowview, Va., who departed this life on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N. C. Born on March 4, 1946, in the town of Algona, Iowa, Kenneth was the cherished son of Eugene Nurre and Marjorie Thibodeau Nurre Ford.

A true patriot, Kenneth embodied the spirit of service during his time in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1968. His dedication and commitment to his country were evident, as he proudly held the rank of Sergeant following an early discharge. His service to others did not end there; he went on to forge a successful career as the founder and CEO of Technical Maintenance and Service Company Incorporated in Lincoln, Nebraska. Kenneth's entrepreneurial spirit and leadership left a lasting impact on those around him.

Kenneth retired to Southwest Virginia, where he continued to contribute to the welfare of others by serving on the board for the Washington County Service Authority.  He was also a member of American Legion Post 171 in Damascus, Va. His legacy of dedication, resilience, and love for his community will forever be remembered.

In addition to his parents, Kenneth was also preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Jerome, and Larry Nurre; and two sisters, Marianne Briggs and Maxine Nurre, who died prematurely.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Wanda Sue Harrison Nurre; daughter, Tamara Denise Nurre McKinley and husband, Shawn, of Branson, Mo.; two step-sons, Don Jordan, Jr. of Bristol, Tenn. and Michael Jordan of Johnson City, Tenn.; seven siblings, Margaret Vaske and husband, Phil, of Fla.; Tom Nurre of Texas; Denny Nurre of Fla.; Jeanette Thal and husband, Dale, of Loudon, Tenn.; Cletus Nurre and wife, Gayle, of Texas; Marty Nurre and wife, Irma, of Texas; and Bob Nurre and wife, Ellie, of Cleveland, Ohio; two grandchildren, Nathan Andrew McKinley and wife, Valerie and Michael Seth McKinley, all of Branson, Mo.; step-grandson, Kaleb Jordan of Milford, Nebr.; and step great grandson, Bentley Matthew Jordan.  He will be remembered as a fun and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He will be privately entombed in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
