Mary Yvonne Owens

Mary Yvonne Owens, age 60, of Damascus Va., went to be with the Lord on May 14, 2024, in Abingdon, Va. She was the wife of Michael “Elsie” Owens.

Born in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Mark Pratt and Yvonne Rose Pratt.  Mary graduated in 1981 from Miramar High School in Miami, Fla.  She moved to Abingdon, Va. in 1981 where she would reside until relocating to Damascus, Va. in 1984. Mary and Michael were married on September 3, 1984, celebrating 39 years of marriage. Mary was previously employed by Johnston Memorial Hospital for 27 years where she worked in various departments.

She was an active member of Damascus Church of Christ. In Mary’s spare time, she enjoyed reading, making jewelry, studying the Bible and sewing.  Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Michael “Elsie” Owens; daughter, Leighanna Owens; two grandchildren, Kalie Orr and Grayson Thomas; three brothers, Mark Pratt, Jr. (Kaye), Bob Pratt and James Pratt; niece, Crystal Pratt; five nephews, Lucas Pratt, Paul Pratt, Jacob Pratt, Ben McGlamery and Matt McGlamery; brother-in-law, Bob McGlamery (Nikki); uncle, Bill Pratt; three aunts, Sharon Meade, Jackie Rose and Katherine Pratt.  Mary also had several friends and church family whom she loved dearly.  

 A special Thank you to Dwight and Charlotte “Charlene” Phillips, Gary and Terry Dunn and Johnny and Becky Cato who aren’t just friends but are considered family. The family would also like to give a heartfelt special “Thank you” to all employees of Ballad Health Hospice, Abingdon Ambulance Service, Deer Meadows Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Angel Sykes, Shannan Hubble, Rose Thomas and Amy Thomas for all the prayers, love and care Mary received.  

At Mary’s request, there will be no funeral or graveside services.
