Nicole Eileen Widener, went to be with Jesus on her 33rd birthday, Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born to John C. “Junior” Widener and Louise Norris Widener in Hickory, N.C. Despite her disability, Nicole lived a full life and displayed the childlike faith that Jesus says believers need to come to him. She was a 2010 graduate of Abingdon High School and a member of Highland Chapel. She loved music and her favorite song was Through the Fire by Jason Crabb. Her favorite pastime was coloring.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Johnny Clifton Widener, Sr. and Linda Lane Widener; and maternal grandparents, Ernest Norris and Eileen Price Norris.
In addition to her parents, Nicole is survived by her brother, Andrew Clifton Widener and wife, Whitney, of Meadowview, Va.; niece, Riley Widener; and two nephews, Garret and Lucas Widener; three paternal aunts, Patty Coffey, Carol Ratliff, and Kristi Lambert; two maternal uncles, Ronald Norris and Robert Norris; special “aunt”, Carolyn McDowell; and her beloved cat, Oscar.
A funeral ceremony will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Chapel, 19644 Spoon Gap Rd., Abingdon, Va. 24211, with Pastor Paul White and Rev. Spencer Roark officiating. A committal service will follow in Highland Chapel Cemetery where Danny Jackson, Danny Little, Ronald Norris, Jason Price, Shane Wright, and Travis Wright will serve as pallbearers. Thomas Lambert, Robert Norris and Jimmy Price will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. at the church.
