Rebecca Gay "Grumpy" Jones, age 76, of Marion, Va., was born June 26, 1947, in Rural Retreat, and passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024, in Abingdon. She was known for her cooking, canning, scrapbooking and collecting cookbooks. Rebecca was a fan of local festivals, live country and bluegrass music.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Collie Densmore Hughes and Nannie Elizabeth Crawford Burse Hughes; her grandparents; and three grandchildren, Jessie Johnson, Charlie Johnson and Jason, who died in infancy.
Rebecca is survived by three sons: Gregory Allen Jones, of Atkins; George Anthony "Tony" Jones (Julie); and Gene Andrew "Andy" Jones (Michelle), all of North Carolina; four daughters: Donna Jean "Sissy" Jones; Sharon Barrett, both of Seven Mile Ford; Dusti Leigh "Clatt" Jones (Scott), of Atkins; and Kodie Michelle Miles of New Brockton, Ala.; 13 grandchildren, William Randall "Randy" Jones (Shianna), Coy Cheyenne Combs, Melissa Godfrey (Chris), Samantha "Sammy" Godfrey, Candy Combs, Martina Jones, Emily Kautz (Alex), Brady Jones (Sara Beth), Mason Jones, Robert "Scottie" Jones (Colleen), Katelyn "KK" Karstaedt (Nate), Airiana "Boogie" Miles and Noellen "Raine" Miles; 16 great grandchildren, Allen Wayne Jones, Shaylee Lambert, Bryson Severt, Aubrieaunah "Aubie" Severt, Sebastian "Bastian" Godfrey, Brooklyn Odum, Caleb Mitchell, Willow Colley, Jedi Shipman, Scarlett Kautz, Caroline Kautz, Caroline Johnson, Makayla "Hay Hay" Johnson, Autumn Sehulster, Braxton Karstaedt, Cali Mae Jones; and eight special reborns; several nieces and nephews; fur baby, Wilma Lou "Wilmo" Jones; special friends, Katie Tuggle, James Boardman, Jackie Rosenbaum and Jill Setliff Pope; and caregivers, Dusti Jones, Randy Jones, Shianna Severt and Melissa Godfrey.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the physicians, nurses and staff of the Third Floor ICU at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
